Internal ‘passport’ in China

In China, the hukou system functions like an internal passport, regulating residency and access to public services based on one’s birthplace. The ‘passport’ encourages to consider how institutional instruments are used to regulate citizens’ mobility, citizenship and entitlement, and how international migration mirrors international migration.
