Celebrating maps, November and December 2025
12th November 2025
In the coming months, the department will be celebrating perhaps the most archetypal of geography objects – the map! Staff and students are invited to two map-related events. First up, on the 26th November, James Chesire will join us to discuss their new book The Library of Lost Maps. The book uses examples from the map library at University College London to show how map-making has helped transform our understanding of the world around us. Secondly, on the 3rd of December, the latest of our new Geographers Salon events will focus on “Maps we live by”. Hosted by Professor Naomi Millner, the salon will feature contributions from members of the department who use maps in their research, both physical and human geographers. During these events we will be able to draw examples from the cabinet (for example, the Information Graphic Visionaries series) as well as the school map library that features thousands of maps.
