Peatscapes: new foyer display, July 2025

Calendar 30th July 2025

The inaugural exhibition features the Peatscapes project, a Leverhulme Trust funded research collaboration exploring the cultural, environmental, and political geographies of peatlands, and a case study for our popular year 2 unit, Geographies of Nature and our MSc core unit, Environmental Policy and Politics. Co-led by our very own Dr James Palmer, and working alongside project researcher Dr Nye Merrill-Glover, Peatscapes brings together academics and communities to reimagine peatlands not only as fragile ecologies, but also as storied landscapes deeply embedded in histories of extraction, resistance, and regeneration. This display, curated by Nye, includes objects and visuals that foreground the materiality and multisensory dimensions of peatland environments, offering a compelling entry point into the project’s wider aims. More about the project can be found at peatscapes.com.
